World Manta Day Celebrations

World Manta Day will be celebrated in Baa Atoll as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about manta ray conservation and the importance of protecting marine biodiversity.

The celebration aims to engage local communities, schools, and visitors in understanding the ecological significance of manta rays, which are a key species in the atoll’s marine ecosystem. Activities will include educational sessions, guided snorkeling or observation experiences where feasible, and interactive workshops highlighting the threats manta rays face, such as habitat degradation, overfishing, and marine debris.

This initiative, led by the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office in partnership  schools, community groups, and conservation stakeholders, seeks to foster a sense of stewardship for the marine environment while celebrating the unique biodiversity of Baa Atoll.

Date: September 2026
