Kudarikilu

Kudarikilu Island is located in the southern part of Baa Atoll, approximately 125 kilometers northwest of Malé.

The Kudarikilu Ibrahim Fulhu Museum, operated by a local resident, offers valuable insights into the traditional lifestyles, customs, and artistry of the communities in Baa Atoll. The museum serves as a dedicated space to preserve and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region.

A significant historical event associated with the island dates back to 1915 during World War I, when fishermen from Kudarikilu discovered a drifting naval mine floating at sea. Unaware of its danger, the islanders brought it ashore. The fatal explosion occurred on a Friday while children were playing on the beach, and one child accidentally tampered with the device. The blast claimed numerous lives, and it is said that human remains were found floating near neighboring islands.

Today, Kudarikilu remains a small and close-knit community, where residents primarily engage in traditional activities such as fishing and agriculture, contributing to the island’s unique charm and authenticity.
