PCA Forum concludes at Bandos Maldives Resort

The Second Maldives Protected and Conserved Areas Forum 2026 has concluded at Bandos Maldives Resort bringing together those working on Protected and Conserved Areas across Maldives to share and exchange knowledge, explore synergies and opportunities to work together, and provide a platform to learn from global partners.

The Forum took place at Bandos Maldives Resort from near from 3 – 5 February 2026.

The aims of the Forum are to:

1. Effective engagement of stakeholders towards the Maldives 30x30 roadmap.

2. Sharing knowledge and strengthening collaborations at national and regional level for improving performance towards the achievement of The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

3. Sharing of experiences and lessons learnt from existing projects for synergizing and seeking opportunities for future collaborative action towards protected and conserved areas in the Maldives.

4. Strengthening the capacity of protected and conserved area managers across the Maldives.

Outreach Officer of Baa Atoll Biosphere Office Mr.Shaafi Ali together with MD of Baa Atoll Conservation fund Mr.Abdulla Shibau participated in the forum on behalf of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office.

The presentations made at the forum by the Baa BR Team covered topics on Baa Atoll Conservation Fund, a case study from Baa Atoll Mendhoo where the protected area is managed and monitored using technology for PCA management together with a video presentation on Baa Atoll BR highlighting the key ecological features of the BR, threats, challenges and opportunities in managing the reserve.
